The Small Business Assistance Corporation (SBAC) provides loans and technical assistance for new and existing businesses in Southeast Georgia and the Low Country of South Carolina with a focus on providing equitable access to all segments of the greater Savannah community.

History and Overview of Small Business Assistance Corporation

The SBAC has been in full operation since September 1989 and is a specialized non-profit governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that reflects the makeup and business development interest of the market area. Its founding goal was, and is, to provide and encourage socio-economic improvement for all citizens through the expansion of small businesses by a systematic focus on equitable access to capital management assistance and business opportunities for all segments.

The Small Business Assistance Corporation (SBAC) is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), certified by the U.S. Department of Treasury. SBAC is also a Certified Development Company (CDC) licensed by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and contracted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Georgia’s Department of Community Affairs (DCA), and the City of Savannah, to promote small business development through financing and technical assistance.

Small Business Assistance Corporation Programs and Services

  • Loan Programs – Loan programs include
    • Micro Loans
    • Commercial Real Estate Loans Small Business Loans
    • Rural Loans
    • City of Savannah Loans.
  • Technical Assistance (TA) Scholarship – Current and former clients are eligible to receive paid technical assistance for their businesses. Assistance includes training, consultation, and other business services needed to help start, grow, or expand their businesses. For example, training could be marketing training, HR training, bookkeeping training, etc.
  • Events- The SBAC hosts informational and professional-building workshops and webinars. Those interested in getting a loan or learning how to qualify for one, should check the SBAC’s event schedule.
